FINDINGS

After conducting two separate interviews, we have found many similarities within the two participants answers. This was an interesting observation because our two drag queens both come from very different living situations. Andres is from Erin Ontario, a small town located just outside of the GTA, while Liam is from the heart of downtown Toronto. We hypothesized that the two participants would have different opinions on drag and have contrasting experiences within the LGBT community. While some answers were drastically different, for the most part Liam and Andres shared very similar beliefs. One noteworthy observation within the interview was our two participants plans on what they want to do with drag in the future. Liam plans on moving back to Toronto after his time here at Queen's, and hopes to become a professional drag queen amongst the Toronto gay scene. While Andres on the other hand wants to follow a more traditional path and work in law. It is important to note that Liam is currently a drama major, and uses his connection to theater production to the fullest of his abilities. Liam is currently working on several shows in and out of drag. Part of the performance of drag involves costume design. Since many costumes are expensive, many drag queens create their own clothes. Liam has worked extensively with costumes and as a result, his schooling has improved his drag performance. Adversely, Andre is a gender studies major. Although LGBT issues is a core concept discussed in any gender studies class, he doesn’t have the extra push to work on drag within his studies. Regardless of their current schooling, both of them love where they currently are as local drag queens. They have both become local queer celebrities and enjoy the attention and publicity being a small town drag queen has brought them.
